Although civic authorities are lauded for packing awareness messages on waste segregation with popular Sandalwood numbers and folklore, residents of Jagadish Nagar in KR Nagar limits were made to wake up every morning to noisy Bollywood numbers with no connection to the message.

It has emerged that the contractor ignored content approved by the BBMP and had been reportedly playing Bollywood songs for a month.

“Garbage collectors weren’t playing the announcement (regarding waste segregation) in the auto (that comes in the morning for garbage collection),” local resident Jnaneshwara T M said. “But they play the latest Bollywood numbers instead at a disturbingly high decibel. Some songs are so noisy that residents are put to hardship in the morning hours.”

BBMP officials clarified that contractors cannot play anything other than the pre-approved content largely in Kannada. “Such drivers are present here and there,” admitted Sarfaraz Khan, BBMP’s Joint Commissioner for Solid Waste Management.

“Such things have happened before and we have punished the drivers and supervisors. Once we receive a complaint from the residents, we will take immediate action,” he assured.
