Thieves drilled a hole in the floor of a jewellery shop and decamped with more than 35 kg of silver articles and about 600 grams of gold jewels on Wednesday night.

The theft took place at Balaji Jewellers on Devasandra Main Road. Mohan Lal, a native of Rajasthan, owns the showroom. The theft came to light on Thursday morning. CCTV cameras had been damaged.

The thieves had drilled their way into the jewellery store through a nearby drainage. Police recovered about five kg silver articles which had fallen while the thieves escaped.

“Police suspect the involvement of persons known to Lal. Police have collected CCTV footage from nearby areas to establish the identity of the thieves,” a senior police officer said.
