The High Court of Karnataka on Friday directed to add Central government a party to the PIL filed by advocate N P Amruthesh, questioning the experimental and test flying being carried out by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in densely populated residential areas.

The petitioner has contended that the test flying poses huge risk for the residents around the HAL airport.  The HAL airport is now located very close to the central business district and it would be inappropriate to fly these aircraft in these residential areas.

The petitioner has sought directions to HAL to conduct these experiments in alternative aerodromes.  The petitioner has also sought the directions to vest the power of issuing NoC with the Central government and not with the HAL.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath adjourned the next hearing till April 6, 2016.
