Man arrested in Bengaluru for biting woman's lips

The Govindapura police have arrested a man for allegedly molesting a young woman by biting her lips while she was out buying groceries.

The incident occurred on July 17.

Based on the victim's complaint, the police booked the suspect under BNS Section 74, which deals with assault or criminal force intended to outrage a woman's modesty.

The suspect, identified as Maruf Sharif, 28, who runs a bird shop, was arrested and remanded in judicial custody by a magistrate court.

The police said the woman, a resident of Govindapura, was riding her two-wheeler to a grocery store when Sharif, who had been following her, bit her lips in the middle of Govindapura Main Road and fled.

During interrogation, he reportedly confessed that water splashed on him as the woman rode past, which enraged him and led to the assault.
