Security personnel went into a tizzy at the Kempegowda International Airport and City Railway Station on Monday afternoon after a man made calls claiming that he had planted explosives on a couple of flights and in the cloakroom of the railway station. This is the third such incident within a week.
Passengers on both the flights were made to deboard and the police rushed with a bomb disposal squad. After a thorough check, they learnt that it was a hoax. Passengers were inconvenienced as some flights were delayed.
A police officer from the City railway station said a man called the railway control room around 1.23 pm and informed in Hindi that he had planted a bomb in the cloakroom and disconnected the call. But after a thorough check, no bomb was found.
A spokesperson from BIAL said that around 12 noon, a bomb threat call was received. According to the protocol, security agencies were alerted and enhanced security checks were carried out. The threat was determined to be a hoax and the aircraft cleared for departure.
A senior police officer said that a special team has been formed to nab the caller. An investigation revealed that he made calls from Banaswadi from two different numbers by changing the locations. He even called some private airlines.
