<p>Bengaluru: Former deputy chief minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan will inaugurate an initiative to improve language and numeracy proficiency among government schoolchildren in his Malleswaram constituency on December 25 to mark the birth anniversary of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.</p>.<p>"A special focus is being placed on effectively implementing the central government’s National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat) scheme in government schools and anganwadis within my constituency. The Shiksha Foundation is collaborating with us on this effort," Narayan said in a statement.</p>.<p>The initiative will be launched at the Chandrodaya Kannada Medium School in Diwanar Palya.</p>.Traffic restrictions in several parts of Bengaluru for Christmas today.<p>The goal of the NIPUN Bharat initiative is for every student above Grade 3 to acquire proficiency in language and numeracy by the age of 9. </p>.<p>Narayan pointed out that Malleswaram has 12 government schools --Kodandaramapura, Subedar Palya, Mattikere, IISc Campus, Malleswaram, Yeshwanthpur, Poornapura, Thiruvallapura, Maruti Nagar and Palace Guttahalli. </p>.<p>Initially, students from Grades 4 to 7 who are lagging will be identified and provided with learning materials and targeted attention.</p>.<p>"Regular monthly assessments will be conducted in every school, along with baseline and year-end capacity evaluations. Plans will then be revised based on these results, with the ambitious goal of achieving 100% proficiency within the next year. Parents will also be sensitised to this initiative," Narayan said. </p>.<p>"In addition, we plan to gradually introduce nursery education in all government and BBMP schools in Malleswaram, starting with 20 centres," Narayan said. </p>
