<p>Bengaluru: The Jayanagar police in southern Bengaluru registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Monday against a Rapido bike taxi rider after a video went viral showing him slapping a woman who questioned his driving, police officials said.</p><p>CCTV footage that surfaced hours later showed the woman, Shreya, also hitting the rider, Suhas. It remains unclear whether she struck first or acted in self-defence. A probe is underway.</p>. <p>The police said that the incident occurred on June 13 around 10 am near Jayanagar 3rd Block.</p><p>"The woman had questioned the bike taxi rider about his unsafe riding. An altercation followed, after which the driver slapped her. An FIR was then registered.</p><p>The Jayanagar police booked Suhas under BNS sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).</p><p>In her complaint, Shreya said she had booked a Rapido ride from BTM Layout to Jayanagar, 3rd Block and alleged that the rider drove rashly and ignored traffic rules. “As I told him that riding in such a way was illegal, he behaved offensively and assaulted me,” she claimed in the FIR.</p><p>In a video statement, Suhas claimed he had taken a shortcut to save time. “She did not let me speak and spoke harshly. She also hit me with her tiffin box. I hit her, too. In anger, I told her to go back to her state. I do not speak fluent English, but I replied in English,” he alleged.</p><p>The incident gained traction online, coinciding with the Karnataka High Court’s recent order halting bike taxi services in the state from Monday.</p>
