A large number of people, students, heads of religious institutions, educational institutions and employees of various companies protested against BBMP for dumping garbage near S Bingipura village in Anekal taluk on Tuesday.

The protesters staged a dharna on the Bettadasanapura Hill against the act of the BBMP, alleging that garbage was being dumped in the area, which is home to a number of schools, religious places, an industrial estate and residential layouts. Foul smell pervades the entire vicinity, causing inconvenience to the residents.

Though the BBMP officials had been requested not to dump the garbage in the area, the act continued unabated.

The BBMP, in order to safeguard the interests of the contractors, was allowing dumping of garbage, paying no heed to the appeals of the local people, they alleged.

The residents threatened to lay a siege to the Vidhana Soudha, if the Palike did not stop dumping garbage in their village.
