Pointing to the rise in cancer patients, Dr C N R Rao on Sunday urged the state government to set up a ‘nano house’ in Bengaluru for further research.

Addressing the golden jubilee celebrations of Karnataka Cancer Society at the IISc, Prof Rao said, of late, there has been a spurt in cancer cases.

“Cancer is replete with all. Hospitals see a high density of patients suggesting in-depth study and research besides utilising the expertise of well-trained doctors,” he added.

Prof Rao released an informative letter themed ‘Youngsters against the Cancer’. Sources at the cancer society told DH that a massive awareness drive among youngsters is on the cards. “We are planning awareness programmes in degree colleges by forming 500 youngsters’ groups. They will inculcate further awareness,” a society member said.

D V Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister for Statistics, inaugurated a programme to screen cancer patients in rural areas.

“Supporting the works of the society, I will release Rs 5 lakh under my MPLAD scheme in a week’s time,” the minister said.
