Six policemen, including an inspector suspended for dereliction of duty

The petitioner alleged that on June 30, four people identified as Vishnu, Deepu, Kishor Kumar, and Sandeepkumar assaulted police constables at a bar in Ramamurthy Nagar but Inspector Mutturaj received a bribe from the suspects and released them without initiating any action.

Bengaluru: Six policemen from the Ramamurthy Nagar police station, including Inspector Mutturaj H, have been suspended for dereliction of duty and misconduct, documents reviewed by DH revealed.

The suspended officers include Sub-Inspector Umesh; Assistant Sub-Inspectors Firoz Khan and Mahesh; Head Constable Manjunath; and Constable Basavaraj Allolli.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda confirmed that the suspension orders were issued on Wednesday.

The allegations

The action follows an anonymous petition received at the commissioner’s office, alleging serious lapses by the officers.

On June 30, four people — Vishnu, Deepu, Kishor Kumar, and Sandeepkumar — reportedly assaulted constables at a bar in Ramamurthy Nagar. Inspector Mutturaj allegedly accepted a bribe from the suspects and released them without taking action.

On August 28, beat officers arrested a drug peddler named Tony, alias Antony, with narcotic substances. The inspector reportedly let him go without initiating any action.

The petition also claimed that on July 20, a 21-year-old man, Antony Regan, was murdered, and his friend was severely injured by one Gaurav and his accomplices.

Despite evidence, Mutturaj allegedly excluded Gaurav’s name from the FIR and chargesheet.

The petition further accused the other five officers of colluding with Mutturaj in these unlawful acts.

Investigation findings

N Sateesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (East), directed the KG Halli Assistant Commissioner of Police to investigate the allegations. The probe confirmed all claims, citing violations under the Karnataka State Police Disciplinary Circular, including negligent policing and substandard behaviour.

Based on the findings, Kumar issued suspension orders for the six officers.

Mutturaj, who previously served in Tumakuru, was on his first posting in Bengaluru city.

A senior police officer told DH, “Even the residents of Ramamurthy Nagar were frustrated with Mutturaj’s conduct. There are multiple complaints against him, reflecting his disregard for public welfare.”
