<p>Bengaluru: A total of 3.49 lakh property tax defaulters within the BBMP limits owe the civic body Rs 390 crore, officials said.</p>.<p>This also means that nearly 17 lakh properties have paid their taxes on schedule.</p>.<p>The civic body has categorised 1.73 lakh property owners as chronic defaulters, while around 1.76 lakh properties have yet to pay the property tax for the year 2024-25.</p>.<p>Data revealed that the highest number of defaulters are in Mahadevapura (81,481), followed by Bommanahalli (57,786) and RR Nagar zones (47,873), all located on the city's outskirts.</p>.<p>The BBMP has released the list as it gears up to collect arrears before the financial year ends.</p>.<p>"Despite sending notices, SMSes, and making calls, chronic defaulters are not paying their dues. These property owners did not even avail themselves of the one-time tax settlement scheme, which had reduced dues by waiving penalties and interest. Letting such citizens evade taxes is unfair to honest taxpayers," officials said.</p>.<p>Responding to criticism from some MLAs, BBMP Special Commissioner (Revenue) Munish Moudgil stated that anyone supporting these 10% chronic defaulters is acting against the 90% of honest taxpayers and public interest.</p>.<p>"The BBMP is clear and determined to collect property tax as per the law. Please support the BBMP morally in its drive against these persistent and chronic tax defaulters," he said.</p>
