<p>Bengaluru: Proceedings in several court halls at the principal bench of the Karnataka high court were affected on Wednesday as the Advocates’ Association of Bengaluru (AAB) gave a call to its members to abstain from proceedings for the day. The AAB had given this call in a protest against the recommendation for transfer of four high court judges.</p><p>AAB said that a decision in regard to abstaining from the proceedings was taken at the special general body meeting held on Tuesday. The proceedings on Wednesday commenced as usual with most of the advocates present. However, the office bearers of AAB entered the court halls and urged the advocates to go out of the court halls in view of the call for boycott of proceedings. The office bearers said the decision of the special general body meeting could not be made public and no intimation could be passed on to the media.</p>.Advocates protest transfer of four judges from Karnataka High Court.<p>In some court halls, there were arguments between the office bearers of AAB and advocates, who did not want to boycott proceedings in the interest of litigants. An advocate even informed a division bench that it was difficult to appear as AAB is insisting on boycotting the proceedings.</p><p>In court hall number 1, presided over by the Chief Justice, AAB president Vivek Subba Reddy requested the bench not to damage the cases in view of the boycott. Even as Vivek Reddy was making this submission, the other office bearers of AAB asked advocates to leave the court hall in a raised voice. Due to this, the proceeding in court hall number 1 was halted for some time. The proceedings resumed after a brief halt, while only a few advocates appeared in person with most of them appearing through video conferencing praying for adjournment.</p><p>In some other court halls, the judges asked AAB office bearers/members not to obstruct court proceedings. Meanwhile, some advocates, who initially conceded to the request by the AAB, returned to the court halls to physically attend the proceedings. In some other court halls, litigants were seen approaching the benches requesting adjournments stating that the advocates are abstaining from appearance for the day. Some court halls, hearing urgent bail matters, heard and granted relief in the absence of advocates.</p><p>The AAB is protesting the decision of the collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, recommending the transfer of four judges from the Karnataka high court. In its April 15 and 19 meetings, the collegiums had recommended transfer of Justice Hemanth Chandanagoudar to the Madras High Court, Justice Krishna Natarajan to Kerala, Justice Neranahalli Srinivasan Sanjay Gowda to Gujrat and Justice Krishna Dixit to the Orissa high court.</p>
