Police have arrested two women and a man for murdering a 67-year-old financier for gain on April 2.

Sanjay Satish, from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, was tied up and strangled in his rented flat in Bethel Nagar, KR Puram, East Bengaluru. His decomposed body was found three days later. Police have arrested Sumathi (23), Sumayya Bano (22), both from Shankara Math, and Karthik (20), from Maruthi Nagar, Yelahanka, said Abdul Ahad, DCP (Whitefield).

On March 27, Sumayya had gone to the Malleswaram police station to file a domestic abuse complaint against her husband, Dadapeer. Satish was also there to lodge a complaint about a financial dispute. They got to know each other and exchanged phone numbers.

Satish later called up Sumayya, saying he was looking for a domestic help as his wife and son had moved to New Zealand. Sumayya, along with Sumathi, visited his flat on March 31. They saw him wearing three gold chains and other jewellery. They also learnt about cash in the house.

The women told Satish they would come back in two days. They decided to hatch a plot to kill him and take away the booty.

On April 2, the women, along with Karthik, went to Satish's house and pounced on him. They tied him up, threw chilli powder at his face and strangled him. They then took away Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, three gold chains and three gold rings of 230 grams, all worth Rs 7 lakh, and fled from the scene by wearing the burqa.

Police arrested the suspects on Monday night. A magistrate has remanded them in police custody for further investigation.

Ahad said Satish had moved to Bengaluru several years ago and was into the moneylending business. He initially lived in Malleswaram before moving to KR Puram. He had divorced his wife before moving to Bengaluru.
