<p>Bengaluru: Two labourers died after a fire broke out in an under-construction building on the city outskirts on Thursday.</p><p>The deceased have been identified as Uday Bhan (40) from Uttar Pradesh, and Roshan (26) from Bihar.</p><p>Fire and emergency services sources said the control room received an alert at 11.10 am about a fire in a ground-plus-three building near Madanayakanahalli.</p><p>"Three fire tenders were immediately dispatched,” a senior firefighter told <em>DH</em>. “The building was under construction, and Plaster of Paris (POP) work was underway. It is located on a 50x50 site.”</p><p>Eyewitnesses reported that the fire erupted suddenly while labourers were working.</p><p>At the time of the incident, eight workers were on the second and third floors. While five managed to escape, one climbed to the top floor and took refuge on the water tank.</p>.At least 17 students die in fire in northern Nigeria.<p>“Our firefighters used a ladder and successfully rescued the man from the water tank,” a senior fire officer said.</p><p>Firefighters then worked to extinguish the blaze, starting from the ground floor. “We were told two workers were missing. Their bodies were later found on the second and third floors,” the officer added.</p><p>The bodies were sent for autopsy.</p><p><strong>Probe underway</strong> </p><p>Preliminary observations suggest a short circuit may have triggered the fire.</p><p>"Since POP work was in progress, there were several combustible materials, including varnish, plywood, and plastic. We suspect the fire was caused either by a short circuit due to the presence of electrical lines or a spark from welding. There was no gas leak or cylinders at the site,” the officer noted.</p><p>The jurisdictional Madanayakanahalli police have launched an investigation.</p>
