Woman sexually abused by 'NRI man'

A 32-year-old woman has filed a complaint of sexual assault and cheating against a man for allegedly posing as an NRI from Muscat and sexually abusing her for the past one year on the pretext of marrying her.

The cheating came to light when the man’s wife met the victim by chance and narrated her ordeal following which the victim filed a cheating case on Saturday.

In her complaint, the victim said she met the accused Rundeep Ganguly on Bharat Matrimony, a matchmaking website, in April 2018. The accused claimed that he was single, working in Muscat, but presently residing in the United States. Impressed by his profile, the victim started meeting the accused, who sexually abused her multiple times on the pretext of marrying her.

The victim told the police that the accused was married, but was residing separately from his wife after a domestic row. The accused uploaded his fake profile claiming to be an NRI and acted single to lure gullible people, the victim said.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case of cheating and rape against the accused, and are investigating further.
