<p>Bengaluru: Bengaluru has become the second global city — after San Francisco — to launch an innovation challenge for startups to find sustainable solutions to its urban problems. </p><p>Called Yes Bengaluru, the initiative was launched by the Department of Electronics and IT/BT on July 8.</p><p>It will engage startups in finding sustainable solutions for civic issues in the city and make it sustainable and liveable for future generations. </p><p>The department partnered with global consulting firm Deloitte and the World Economic Forum (WEF) to launch this initiative.</p>.Berlin to open business office in Bengaluru next year.<p>An MoU to this effect was signed by a Karnataka delegation led by Sharath Bachegowda, Hoskote MLA and Chairman of KEONICS, during their US roadshow recently. </p><p>The first meeting was attended by over 45 companies and other stakeholders. About 10-15 important ideas were discussed and shortlisted. </p><p>Explaining the not-for-profit initiative, Bachegowda said Deloitte was their knowledge partner and it would help throw open challenges to the startup community to find solutions for various problems faced by the city such as air and noise pollution, solid waste management, sewage treatment, and traffic congestion, among others.</p><p>“Once they come out with solutions and products, the suitable ones will be executed by various government departments and civic bodies like the BBMP,” he told <em>DH</em>. </p><p>He added that Deloitte was working with the government to open the challenge in two months. </p><p>Priyank Kharge, Minister for IT/BT, said: “The challenge before us is how to make Bengaluru a more livable, sustainable city in the future. Yes Bengaluru will involve various stakeholders, including startups and the private sector, in finding solutions for urban challenges such as mobility, green energy, water conservation, etc. Over the next three years, the startup community will help us find solutions for a growing city like Bengaluru.” </p><p>Launched in 2023 in collaboration with the WEF, Deloitte, Salesforce, Citi and the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, YES San Francisco (Yes SF) was the first location-based UpLink Challenge created in direct response to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 11 of making cities more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Yes SF invited entrepreneurs to submit their revolutionary ideas and bold solutions aimed at the sustainable revival of downtown San Francisco. </p>
