Youth who 'jumped signal' killed on spot

A 21-year-old motorcyclist, who “jumped the signal”, was killed on the spot and the pillion rider sustained injuries when a BMTC bus hit their bike near Basaveshwara Circle under the High Grounds traffic police station limits on Sunday morning.

According to police, Mubarak, 21, a resident of Hegde Nagar, was travelling towards Mysore Bank Circle around 8.30 am, when a BMTC bus heading towards Vidhana Soudha collided with his bike.


The victim reportedly jumped the signal and was “speeding” when the signal was still red and 26 seconds were remaining for the green light. This resulted in the accident, said a senior police officer.

Passersby rushed him and the pillion rider, Shahrukh, 17, to a nearby private hospital. Mubarak was declared brought dead, while Shahrukh suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Nimhans, where he is currently being treated at the ICU, added police
The bus driver, Anand, has been arrested and a case has been registered.

Mubarak and Shahrukh were cloth sellers at the City Market.
