The body of a man, who drowned at Mallalli waterfalls on Tuesday evening, was traced on Wednesday evening. The deceased is Javid (27), from Arehalli village in Belur taluk, Hassan district.
Javid, along with five others had come to Mallalli. At the venue, two of them stood on the rocks by the falls and crossed the protective fence. As water was released from mini hydel power project in the vicinity, Javid was washed away by the currents. Another man Fazil, who stood on another rock, was rescued by the people after alerting the hydal power plant, which stopped releasing water.
Villagers vented their anger against the power plant for releasing water to the river during the daytime, without issuing any warning. A resolution was passed in Bettadalli Gram Panchayat meeting, to file a case against the power plant owner.
