Cases against 193 bus operators for not issuing tickets

The city traffic police registered cases against 193 private buses who failed to issue tickets to their passengers, and collected a fine of Rs 19,300, on Friday.

This initiation was a result of many complaints raised by bus passengers, at the phone-in conducted by the City Police Commissioner T R Suresh.

During the phone-in on Friday, many callers complained that the conductors failed to issue tickets.

A caller said that a blood donation camp was organised recently at Pilikula. The organisers had asked the blood donors to produce tickets to claim travel allowance. Many could not claim the allowance as the private buses failed to issue tickets.

The commissioner directed the traffic police to immediately initiate a drive against private buses.

He said, “The private bus owners and staff do not adhere to the guidelines. Private buses should be checked at regular intervals. The private bus drivers and conductors permits should also be checked.”

The traffic police swung into action and checked the buses at different locations in Mangaluru. A total of 193 buses were not issuing tickets.

The callers informed the police of unauthorised vehicle parking at Balmatta, Kadri, Shivabagh, PVS Circle, Thokkottu, Hampankatte, Kankanady, Kavoor and Ullal, causing inconvenience to the public.

Another caller said that the officials itself park their vehicles near the road to DC office, MCC and RTO, which causes inconvenience to the pedestrians. The street vendors also claim a large portion of the footpath, causing inconvenience.

Some callers raised the issue of increase in ganja menace and online fraud. The commissioner promised to create awareness against these issues.

In response to a caller’s complaint against an apartment’s residents for felling a tree, that he has nurtured near Srinivas College in Pandeshwar, the commissioner asked him to bring the issue to the notice of MCC and the forest department.

Social worker Hasanabba complained that youngsters sitting in the seats reserved for senior citizens fail to offer their seat when a senior citizen boards a bus.
