'Children went trusting Modi govt's assurance of safety': Mother-in-law of Karnataka man killed in J&K terror attack

"Our children went to Kashmir trusting the assurance of safety you (government) gave them. If you had told them that the situation there was not safe, I would not have sent them," said Geetha, the mother-in-law of Manjunatha Rao, who was shot dead by terrorists in Pahalgam on Tuesday, lamented before the district in charge Minister Madhu Bangarappa.

District in-charge Minister Madhu Bangarappa, MLAs Belur Gopalakrishna, S.N. Channabasappa, former minister Kimmane Ratnakar, Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde, and SP G K Mithun Kumar visited Manjunatha Rao's residence on Wednesday morning and consoled the family.

Geetha expressed her pain by saying that Manjunath had convinced his mother, Sumathi, by saying that some neighbours had visited Kashmir and said that the situation was safe and was not what it used to be.

During this time, Madhu Bangarappa, who discussed with Manjunatha Rao's sister Deepa, informed her about the steps taken by the state government to bring Manjunatha Rao's mortal remains to Shivamogga.

"There is nothing else to say at this time. Such an incident should not have happened. It has happened. We need to ensure that it does not happen again. The government is with Manjunatha Rao's family," Madhu Bangarappa told the media.
