CIMS to be a reality soon; works launched

Residents of Chamarajanagar had reason to cheer on Sunday. Their long pending demand for a Medical college in the district is being realised, with Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash R Patil launching the works by performing ‘guddali puja’ for the same.

The Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) is being constructed near Yadapura in the district on a 42 acre land, at a cost of Rs 118 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, Patil said that it was necessary for each district to have a medical college of its own. If this was achieved, the dreams of the poor to have a doctor in their family would be realised, he said.

The Minister also said that the “generosity” of the chief minister who had taken keen interest in the project had resulted in the works being launched in the district. A 300-bed hospital building too would be constructed along with six new medical colleges next year, he added.

In an effort to make medical facilities available for the poor in their districts, the government had planned to construct super speciality hospitals in Mysore, Gulbarga, Hubli, Belgaum and Bellary. This would prevent the economically weaker sections spending huge amounts to come as far as Bangalore to avail quality treatment, he said.

Funds

The government should allot more funds for Chamarajanagar and Hyderabad Karnatak regions for the overall development, he opined.
