But the successive governments have misused the institution for their political needs. <br /><br />During the S M Krishna rule, the Opposition parties demanded a CBI probe into the Telgi scam but the then government did not agree for the CBI probe. He said his government was ready for a Lokayukta inquiry as he has confidence in the Lokayukta. <br /><br />However, Opposition members contested the CM’s opinion. Congress leaders Siddaramaiah, Srinivas Prasad and others said that the CBI was a constitutional body and it was deplorable to pass negative comments on the institution. They demanded that an inquiry by the CBI alone could bring out truth about illegal mining.<br /><br />Revanna apologises<br /><br />JD(S) floor Leader H D Revanna had to tender an apology in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday for making an allegation against Chief Minister Yeddyurappa without producing a proof for his allegation. As Speaker Bopaiah expunged the allegation made against the CM, Revanna tendered an apology but not before entering into a war of words with the Treasury benches.<br /><br />During the discussion on the Lokayukta issue, Revanna’s allegation irked Yeddyurappa. A visibly angry Yeddyurappa asked Revanna to furnish evidence for his allegation. “You cannot indulge in ‘hit and run’ here by making sweeping allegations. Place the evidence before the House”, Yeddyurappa said and added “What you are doing is wrong. You could have consulted your father (H D Deve Gowda) or your brother (H D Kumaraswamy)”. <br /><br />JD(S) members protested the CM’s remark. However, Minister Suresh Kumar said rules did not permit members to hurl allegations against each other without furnishing evidence. The Speaker upheld the point of order and directed Revanna to tender an apology. <br /><br /></p>
