People want peace and development in the state and will stand by the Congress. BJP is expected to lose 5% to 7% votes in the state and Congress will witness a gain; thanks to the performance of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah-led government. </p>.<p class="bodytext">The proposal of the state government to accord Lingayat-Veershaiva (Basava tatva followers) separate religion status, has been approved by the state cabinet and sent to the centre for approval. </p>.<p class="bodytext">"It is not a move by the government to divide people, but to fulfill a 100-year-old demand. Party veteran Shamnur Shivashankarappa's opposition to it, has been made on different forums, and not on a party forum. The proposal is not seen by the Congress as election gimmick," Tagore clarified.</p>
