It was affectionately known as ‘Radio Kaka’ and 'Nani Kaka' among rural star performers and radio celebrities.</p><p>Bendre, while walking after dinner on Wednesdays, would reach home listening to plays broadcasted loudly in every household. Many people still start their daily activities listening to ‘Vandana Chintan.’ This magical box, now 75 years old, continues to resonate with children, youth, and women.</p><p>In the 21st century, amidst the rise of media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube, radio seems to be losing its charm, especially in rural areas. People’s preferences have changed with the advent of mobile phones, yet the core values remain unchanged. Despite changes elsewhere, Dharwad remains steadfast, evidenced by the weekly delivery of over a hundred letters and numerous phone calls.</p><p>Despite the challenges, Akashvani Dharwad has maintained its position with diverse offerings, including news, entertainment, and interviews. It has adapted to changing technology by reaching audiences through FM and the News On Air app, gaining appreciation from Kannada associations abroad. </p><p><strong>Event</strong></p><p>The Amrit Mahotsava of Akashvani Dharwad will be inaugurated on January 8 (Wednesday) at 5:00 pm. Pandit Venkatesh Kumar,<br>noted pediatrician Dr Rajan Deshpande will be the chief guests. This will be followed by special musical and vocal concerts.</p>
