<p>Bengaluru: The first batch of five women scholars selected for the Chevening-Karnataka scholarships is all set to fly to UK for their Master’s scholarships in September. </p>.<p>The state government had signed an MoU with UK’s Chevening Scholarships programme in 2024 to launch a unique joint scholarship for women graduates from Karnataka to study for a postgraduate programme in UK.</p>.<p>The first batch consists of Athena Rose Joseph, Chandana Anjinappа, Niharikaa Naresh, Shweta N Hegde and Sushma Shyamsundar.</p>.<p>Congratulating the scholarship recipients, Higher Education Minister Dr M C Sudhakar requested the British High Commission to increase the number of beneficiaries from the state.</p>.<p>“I would like to see students from government colleges in the list in the coming years,” he said. </p>.TCS board approves up to Rs 16k-cr share buyback plan.<p>Sudhakar said that there was a need to train government college students to fill out such applications online.</p>.<p>British Deputy High Commissioner to Karnataka & Kerala Chandru Iyer said, “Empowering women and girls in UK and around the world is a priority for us. I am glad Karnataka is the first state in South India to take up the offer.”</p>.<p>The Chevening-Karnataka scholarship is a joint scholarship offered by UK and Karnataka governments to fully fund five women graduates, preferably from government colleges, every year for next 3 years to pursue a master’s programme in any UK university in any stream. </p>.<p>From Karnataka, 1,827 applications were received, 155 were finalised and 20 were selected for interview.</p>
