Gang attacks murder accused in Moodbidri

A gang of five attackers attempted to murder Imthiyaz, a hotel owner, in Gantalkatte, Moodbidri, on Monday morning.

Imthiyaz is accused in the murder of Bajrang Dal activist Prashanth Poojary.

Imthiyaz, who suffered injuries on his hand, head and back, was rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru. He is said to be out of danger.

According to DCP (Crime) Uma Prashanth, the gang entered Imthiyaz's hotel at about 6 am and ordered tea.

When Imthiyaz went in to prepare tea, the gang attacked him with lethal weapons. Imthiyaz ran for his life out the back door. The gang fled in a car.

Ibrahim (23), a worker at the same hotel, suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Accused in murder case

It may be recalled that, Prashanth Poojary-- a florist, was hacked to death on October 9, 2015.

Imthiyaz was among the 14 persons arrested in connection with the Poojary murder.

After a few days in jail, Imthiyaz was released on bail. On coming out on bail, Imthiyaz started a hotel in Gantalkatte.

The DCP said that special teams had been constituted to trace the gang involved in the attack on Imthiyaz.
