Ganja worth `8.6 lakh seized, 3 held

The Coastal Security police have arrested three drug peddlers, at Attavar on Monday night and seized 34.6 kg ganja worth Rs 8,65,000, three cell phones worth Rs 5,500 from them.

Police said the arrested are Sayyed Anis Ahammed (53), Masnoor Ahammed (28), a resident of Mysore and Ansar Pasha (45), a resident of Shankarapura in Chikmagalur.

The trio had packed the ganja in a traveller bag. During the interrogation, they said that they had taken ganja from Inayath in Mysore and were taking it to Udupi for selling.

Man falls to death

A person was killed when he fell from a coconut tree while plucking the coconuts at Kukkundur village in Karkala on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Fredrick D’Cunha, aged 65 years, from Belthangadi. He was working as a laborer in Kukkundur since past 10 years.
