Hailstorm, accompanied by gusty winds, that lashed the region on Monday has spelt trouble for grape farmers.
Strong winds destroyed the ready-to-harvest grape, cultivated on several acres of vineyards in the region.
The farmers had a tough time saving the crop from the drought.Now, the damage caused by the hailstorm has left them in knee-deep debts. The revenue officials visited the vineyards to assess the crop loss.
Light showers in Belagavi
Belagavi city and surrounding villages received light to moderate showers, accompanied by hailstones, for more than 30 minutes on Wednesday, providing much-needed relief from the scorching heat.
Gusty winds brought down a tree and power lines at Kali Ambrai and surrounding areas. Because of which, power supply was disrupted for a while in the area.
Parts of Kittur and Khanapur taluks in the district also received mild showers.
