<p>Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said that the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Dharwad, will be inaugurated on July 31 on Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) premises.<br /><br /></p>.<p>While addressing the gathering after launching the website of JSS Science and Technology University (JSSS&TU) on the occasion of inauguration of the university, the chief minister said, “The Centre has sanctioned the IIT for Karnataka and the state government has allotted more than 500 acres of land to develop the IIT.”<br /><br />“The campus will be inaugurated on July 31 and I will attend the programme. Science and Technology (S&T) is growing in the state and people have good opportunities. People should develop scientific and rational temper by utilising S&T for sustainable and healthy development of society,” he said.<br /><br />With rapid advances in science and technology, it has become inevitable to adopt technology for development of the nation. It is necessary to bring in changes in the education system to utilise available technology and innovations, he said.<br /><br />“The S&T also has negative impact on human life and thus it is necessary to develop human values to avoid destruction. The government has provided funds for the development of the JSSS&TU and the varsity is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). I will extend all support to JSS Mahavidyapeetha for services in the field of education and health. The mutt has a history of more than 1,000 years and has made remarkable contributions to society,” he said.<br /><br />Referring to prevailing superstitious practices in society, the chief minister said that the state government was committed to eradicate<br /><br />Pointing out the inhuman rituals among the people, Siddaramaiah said that the state government was committed to eradicate deep-seated superstitions in society, and hence was attempting to pass the anti-superstition bill.<br /><br />Vice-President M Hamid Ansari, Governor Vajubhai Vala, PWD Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, and Suttur Mutt seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami were present.<br /></p>
