Incident: 40th edition at NITK from tomorrow

The 40th edition of Incident, the annual cultural festival of National Institute of Technology – Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, will be held from February 28.

From its humble beginning in the 1980s, Incident has grown to become one of the largest student-run festivals in the country, attracting a footfall of over 40,000 every year.

This year, Incident has ‘gone through oriental paths along the mystical shores into the Land of the Rising Sun, with its theme, ‘Echoes of the Orient’.

Incident conducts a plethora of events over a span of four days. Under the dance category, Incident holds state-level auditions for the very popular Hip-hop International for solo, duet and group dances in the Hip-hop and Street Dance genre on March 2. Dance will include Tandav, semi-professional classical and contemporary group dance competition, which will be held on March 3.

Among the musical events, Bandish – the eastern rock-battle of bands – and Pulse – the western rock battle of bands – are the flagship events with lucrative recording deals. Also, Dhwanik – the eastern music contest – and Unplugged – the western music band contest witness beautiful music.

Incident also hosts one of the hottest fashion contests in Haute Couture with teams showcasing some exquisite punch in the recent fashion trends. In this edition, one will witness the winner of India’s Next Top Model – Urvi Shetty to judge the contest.

The winner of Slam Dunk, an intercollegiate basketball contest, will carry a cash prize of Rs 75,000. A throwball tournament will also be held for girl students. Apart from these, a variety of events are held in the field of business, fine arts, literature, photography and gaming. The total cash prize for Incident is Rs 4.5 lakh.

Incident is not just about competitions. It is also on artistes performing before the huge audience. Previous editions witnessed some of the biggest names in Benny Dayal, The Itaca Band, Sahil Shah, Kenny Sebastian, The Local Train, Masala Coffee, Ritviz, DJ Zaeden, DJ Aceaxe and others with their exhilarating performances.

This edition will see Amaal Malik, progressive brothers and DJ Shanaya gracing the stage.
