<p>Bengaluru: The ruling <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/congress">Congress</a> is under immense pressure to implement internal reservation among Scheduled Castes (SC) in the upcoming session of the legislature slated to begin on August 11. </p>.<p>The <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/bjp">BJP</a> has slammed the government and threatened to protest in front of DC offices from August 1, if internal reservation isn’t implemented. August 1 has been chosen as on that day, exactly a year ago, a landmark judgment of the Supreme Court empowered states to provide internal reservation to SCs and STs. </p>.<p>Following the judgment, the state government constituted a one-member commission headed by retired High Court judge H N Nagamohan Das. The SCs’ survey supervised by the Das commission ended on July 6. The term of the panel ends on July 31. </p>.<p>Former union minister and BJP leader A Narayanaswamy had, on Tuesday, accused the Congress of ‘forgetting’ the Madigas, while former deputy chief minister Govind Karjol threatened of a ‘do-or-die’ agitation from August 16. </p>.<p>Both these leaders hail from the SC (left)/Madiga community, which has for decades fought for internal reservation. The Madigas have accused the SC (right)/Holeya community of historically depriving them of reservation benefits.</p>.Karnataka internal quota: BJP's Madiga leaders warn of stir from Aug 1.<p>Congress heavyweights Mallikarjun Kharge (AICC president), G Parameshwara (home minister) and Dr H C Mahadevappa (social welfare minister) are all from the SC (right) community.</p>.<p>However, the Congress, which promised internal reservation in its manifesto ahead of the 2023 Assembly polls, is also facing heat from within. </p>.<p><em>DH</em> spoke to Food and Civil Supplies Minister K H Muniyappa and former social welfare minister H Anjaneya – the prominent SC (left) faces in the Congress.</p>.<p>“Siddaramaiah is an Ahinda (Kannada acronym for minorities, backward classes and Dalits) leader. He is committed to social justice and implementing internal reservation. By end of this month, the report will be submitted to the government and we will surely implement it in August,” Anjaneya said.</p>.<p>Noting that the implementation would mean ‘freedom’ for the Madiga community, Anjaneya said it would result in development schemes meant for the community.</p>.<p>Urging BJP to not ‘politicise’ the issue, Anjaneya said, “When we have fought and waited for 35 years, why can’t they wait for another month?”. </p>.<p>Muniyappa agreed with Anjaneya about the Congress’ intent. “Internal reservation will definitely happen. Everything has almost been decided. Once we get the report, it will be implemented”.</p>.<p>When asked if the commission would submit report within the deadline of July 31, the minister said, “Yes, we are hopeful. Once they submit, we will place it before Cabinet”. </p>
