Janivara row: Govt gives two options to Bidar boy

“The student has to choose between the two options given and give his consent to the Karnataka Examination Authority,” Higher Education Minister Dr M C Sudhakar mentioned.

Bengaluru: The state government has given two options to Bidar boy Suchivrat Kulkarni, the KCET student who missed the Mathematics paper after he refused to remove his sacred thread (Janivara).

Higher Education Minister Dr M C Sudhakar personally spoke to the student and has asked Suchivrat if he wants to write the Mathematics paper or accept an average of his Physics and Chemistry scores.

Confirming this to DH, Dr Sudhakar said, “The expert committee constituted has recommended to consider average score from Physics and Chemistry to allot KCET rank. But, to avoid unnecessary controversy we have given him the option.”

As explained by Sudhakar, the student now has to take a call. “The student has to choose between the two options given and give his consent to the Karnataka Examination Authority,” Sudhakar mentioned.

It can be recalled that following the report submitted by the Deputy Commissioner of Bidar district, the department had suspended the principal and the clerk of Sai Spoorthi Pre-University College, who denied entry to the student during the KCET as he had refused to remove the Janivara.

The incident occurred on April 17, during KCET for Mathematics subject.

Meanwhile, Forest and Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre, who is also incharge of Bidar district, has assured a free engineering seat at a college run by his family trust at Bhalki. But, even to claim that seat, having KCET rank is a must.

To declare KCET rank, KEA considers 50 per cent marks from II PUC course and 50 per cent from KCET score.
