<p>Bengaluru: Justice Vibhu Bakhru on Saturday was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court. Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot administered the oath at Rajbhavan. </p><p>The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Acting Chief Justice V Kameswar Rao and other dignitaries.</p><p>Later, in response to the welcome address by the Karnataka State Bar Council, Justice Vibhu Bakhru said that the efforts will be to embrace technology without losing human touch. “As Chief Justice I view it as my responsibility not only to protect the independence of the judiciary but also to strengthen the institution in ways that serve the people better. To reduce the delays and enhance access, to embrace technology without losing human touch and to ensure that our courts are a safe inclusive space for all, specially marginalized,” he said.</p><p>Justice Bakhru said the bench and the bar are collaborators in a shared constitution mission and that both draw strength from Karnataka’s rich philosophical heritage. “The visionary Basavanna taught us of just society, grounded in dignity, equality and moral courage. His ideals remind us that justice must transcend privilege and reach every corner of society,” Chief Justice said.</p>.Aparesh Kumar Singh sworn in as Telangana High Court Chief Justice.<p>Justice Bakhru further said, “Ours own allegiance is to the constitution of India. Our religion is law. The constitutional freedom it guarantees will be unsustainable if the institutions on which it rests are weak. It is your faith in this institution that sustains it. It’s our job that this faith is not misplaced.”</p><p>Justice Bakhru graduated from Delhi University in 1987 and in 1989 he cleared the final examination for Chartered Accountancy from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. In 1990, Justice Bakhru completed his LLB degree in 1990 and enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi. After his practice in the Supreme Court, High Court of Delhi, Company Law Board and various other Tribunals, he was appointed as Additional Judge of Delhi High Court on April 17, 2013 and a Permanent Judge on March 18, 2015.</p><p><strong>Two judges sworn in:</strong></p><p>Justice Jayant Banerji and Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh, transferred from Allahabad high court and Kerala high court respectively, were sworn in as judges of Karnataka high court. In a separate ceremony held at Rajbhavan, the Governor administered the oath.</p><p><strong>Farewell to Justice Kameshwara Rao</strong></p><p>Meanwhile, the high court accorded farewell to Justice V Kameshwar Rao, who has been transferred back to Delhi High court. Justice Kameshwara Rao was the Acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka high court since May 31, when the then Chief Justice NV Anjaria was elevated to the Apex Court.</p>
