Under sweltering heat, Kadur taluk is facing an acute water crisis.

Water is supplied once in three days to several villages following a decline in the water-level in borewells.

M D Kodihalli village gets water once in three days. Each household gets two to three pots of water. As the pressure of water has been reduced, water does not reach the elevated areas.

A Shuddha drinking water unit set up at Maccheri has failed to function for the last eight months.

Water is supplied through tankers to several villages in 18 Gram Panchayats in the taluk. A total of 5,867 families are availing the benefit of water supply.

Ten tankers of water are used for filling water tanks and three tankers for supplying it to Shuddha drinking water units. The price of one tanker with a capacity to supply 5,000 litres of water is Rs 1,200. Daily a sum of Rs 1,68,000 is spent on water supply, said officials.

Hanumana Halli in Yagati hobli is facing water crisis for the last 15 days. Though the Gram Panchayat had dug a borewell and made arrangements to supply water, an individual had fixed a motor to the pipeline to draw water, resulting in an acute water crisis.

When the villagers brought the issue to the notice of the Gram Panchayat, the officials cleared the pump installed by an individual. The decline in water in the borewell has become a headache for villagers.

Yagati PDO Manjunath said, “The issue of the water crisis has been brought to the notice of the Taluk Panchayat.”

Taluk Panchayat EO Dr Devarajanaika said, “The issue of the water crisis in Hanumanahalli has come to our notice. Measures will be taken to tackle the issue.”
