<p>Udupi: “All the castes in the state have been included in the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/india/karnataka/70-of-karnataka-population-is-obc-says-caste-census-3491512">caste census report</a>. I cannot disclose the exact number now,” said Jayaprakash Hegde, former chairman of the Commission for Backward Classes, on Monday.</p><p>Speaking to reporters, he said, “I had earlier mentioned that I will make a statement after the report was discussed in the cabinet. But now, different people are making different statements. Since this has created confusion, a clarification has become necessary.”</p><p>“This is a socio-educational survey. It is not merely a caste census. Caste is only one aspect of the survey. The caste stated by individuals has been recorded. We cannot determine people’s castes ourselves — the caste given by the household members has been noted down,” he said.</p>.Lingayats, Vokkaligas to urge CM Siddaramaiah to drop caste census .<p>“The report can be discussed after it is made public. There are opportunities to rectify if there are any mistakes in the report. The government has said that if there are mistakes, they will be rectified. The Chief Minister himself has said that 95 per cent of the report is accurate. Without examining it, one should not dismiss it as unscientific,” he stated.</p><p>“It is not true that Siddaramaiah prepared the report on his own. In every district of the state, surveys were conducted under the guidance of respective Deputy Commissioners. In every village, trained teachers went and carried out the survey. None of the teachers could have had any personal interest in this. They just filled out the forms provided. This is not a privately prepared report,” he clarified.</p><p>“I wish that the caste census report should be implemented. It has been prepared with much effort. To ward off the confusion in the minds of the people, the report should be made public,” Hegde added.</p>
