Karnataka Home Minister Parameshwara announces Rs 1 crore funds for new women's police station building in Puttur

Mangaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara sanctioned a new building for women’s police station in Puttur.

He was speaking after inaugurating police quarters in Mangaluru, Bellare and new buildings for Bantwal traffic, Subrahmanya, and Bellare police stations, in Mangaluru on Saturday.

“I will sanction Rs 1 crore for the building. Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai has already informed that nine cents land has been identified for the purpose. We will examine the demand for shifting DAR to Puttur,” Parameshwara said.

The Minister said that he had recently met Home Minister Amit Shah and has sought Rs 5000 crore for building police quarters in the state. “There are 1 lakh police personnel in the state. Only 45 % of the staff have quarters. I want to ensure that all the police personnel get quarters while they serve in the department. Under the ‘police gruha’ project, 1600 quarters have been completed during the year.” When the police gruha project was initiated, the unit cost was Rs 16 to 18 lakh. Now, it has been escalated to Rs 26 to 27 lakh," he said.

He urged Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation not to compromise on the quality of the works.

Stating that communal forces have been trying to disturb harmony in society, the minister said that the police officers should emphasise on harmony in society. The anti-communal wing has been successful in checking communal related incidents in the district.

Calling upon police officers to focus on people friendly policing, he said that complainants visiting the police station should be treated well. Rs 1 lakh each for the police station will be given for serving tea, coffee for the visitors. Police stations should become people friendly stations.

Artificial Intelligence is used effectively in the department. AI cameras are also being used. The state government is committed to provide all the facilities for the department. He urged the police personnel and their families to educate their children.

The Minister also appreciated the talents of policemen including the emcee of the day and also noted the contribution of a Ullal policeman who has authored three books.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, MLA Ashok Kumar Rai, Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal, SP Yathish N, DIG (western range) Amith Singh, Coast Guard Air enclave Commandant Munish Aggarwal were present.

The Karnataka State Police Housing Society had built three quarters of buildings —Cauvery, Tunga, Bhadra at a cost of Rs 41 crore. These buildings will have 160 houses. Each unit is 800 square feet in a plinth area with two bed rooms. The police stations and quarters built in DK police limits are estimated at a cost of Rs six crore.
