<p> <br />Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, KSLU Vice-Chancellor J S Patil said the MOUs will be signed during the second All Karnataka Law Principals’ Conclave (KARLAWPRICON) and seminar on ‘Strengthening legal education at the threshold of second generation reforms in legal education in India,’ to be held in Bangalore on May 15.<br /><br />According to the MoU, international experts who visit the NLSIU will deliver lectures at the KSLU and NLSIU faculty will also teach here and will conduct advanced seminar courses. The NLSIU library would be open for the KSLU students and both the universities will take up research projects jointly, he said.<br /><br />Academic e-library<br /><br />LexisNexis is a multi-national company which publishes international law books. It will provide its academic e-library to the KSLU at 67 per cent discount. Print materials would be provided to the KSLU students at 45 per cent discount and the KSLU will purchase books worth Rs 85 lakh. <br /><br />LexisNexis will offer global internship programmes for the KSLU students, it will be a partner for seminars and workshops to be organised by the varsity, and will put up stalls there. <br /><br />The company will also train the KSLU faculty and students in using the e-library and will help the varsity to arrange lectures by international experts on key issues like intellectual property rights and information technology law. LexisNexis will publish all textbooks and research materials of the KSLU and the copyright will be with the varsity. In return, the KSLU will provide its students’ database to LexisNexis, Patil explained.<br /><br />The KILPAR will also be a partner with the KSLU in organising seminars and workshops and will seek the help of the varsity in preparing draft legislation on any issue.<br /><br />The KSLU has also been assigned to prepare the draft to introduce one-year LLM course in the country., and the course would be designed blending both international and Indian elements. The project to develop the legal database of the State is in the formative stage, and a pilot project would be launched at Sutagatti village. Attempts are on to get funds for the project. Database of students of 87 colleges affiliated to the KSLU will be launched on the internet very soon,” Patil added.</p>
