Leopards and bears straying into the villages and towns on the forest fringes are nothing unusual in Tumakuru district. But a leopard went further by barging into the house of Ranganath on Ist Cross, Jayanagar East, in Tumakuru on Saturday morning.
The leopard strayed into the house of Ranganath, a retired KSRTC employee, when the Forest department personnel were conducting operation to trap the big cat.
During the operation the leopard pounced on forest guard Govindaraju and injured him on lower back.
The terrified Ranganath, his wife Vanajakshi and their daughter-in-law Vinutha locked themselves up in the bathroom.
The Forest department personnel are carrying out operations to trap the animal. A team of experts led by Dr Muralidhar, from Hassan has arrived to assist the Forest guards in catching the leopard.
