MLC S L Bhoje Gowda assured that he will impress upon the government to release funds for the completion of Karagada lift irrigation project.

Addressing reporters here on Sunday, he said that the mud which is dug out of the canal, as a part of Karagada project, is dumped on the banks of the canal.

The mud has been sliding into the canal during the rainy season, blocking the easy flow of water. Had there been good quality works, water would have flown freely during this rainy season. The contractor and the engineer are totally responsible for the chaos. Injustice has been done to the farmers, he said.

Stating that the government will work towards the overall development of the district in general and irrigation in particular, he said that grants will be released to be paid as compensation for loss of private and public property, due to heavy rain.

Responding to a query, he said that the decision to impose a time limit and to reserve a separate room for the journalists to meet the legislators in Vidhana Soudha was made by the previous government.

The present government has only implemented the order. The decision might have been taken in order to avoid unnecessary delay as a result of chit-chat between elected members and scribes on the corridors of Vidhana Soudha, he added.

To another question, S L Bhoje Gowda said nobody wants to divide the Karnataka state. People who have been batting for a separate statehood, are being ‘used’ by the BJP.

He alleged that women who took part in a rally in Ramanagara, urging for loan-waiver, were not farmer women. They were hired by the opposition party.

On the pretext of loan waiver, the BJP is carrying out their own propaganda for Lok Sabha elections, misleading the people, said Bhoje Gowda.

The chairpersons for corporation boards will be appointed in the month of “Shravana.” The district is likely to get a chance, he added.
