Monsoon revives in N-K districts

Many parts of Mumbai-Karnataka and some parts of Hyderabad-Karnataka received good spell of rain on Sunday.

Several areas in Uttara Kannada, Haveri, Gadag, Dharwad, Bagalkot and Vijayapur districts witnessed heavy rain. It rained for about 10 hours at many places in Gadag district.

Nargund taluk too received heavy rain and bringing hopes for farmers. It rained heavily at Bhatkal, Kumta and Karwar taluks. Haliyal too received heavy rain. Byadagi taluk in Haveri district received about 8.5 mm rainfall. After a brief lull, incessant rain lashed twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad throughout the day. It started raining in Hubballi-Dharwad since Saturday night and the rain continued on Sunday.

Almost all the roads were slushy and road users and pedestrians found it difficult to use the roads. Rainwater accumulated at trenches dug for underground drainage works. Purandara mantap, Salu Mantap, Koti Linga, Vedic Mantap, ancient footbridge connecting Hampi with Anegundi and the Raghunandana Teertha Swami temple and other historical structures along the Tungabhadra river bank at the world heritage site of Hampi in Ballari district were submerged following discharge of 79,000 cusecs of water from the Tungabhadra dam. It drizzled throughout the day at Sandur in Ballari district. It did not rain for the last two months indicating the possibility of drought. Though it drizzled on Sunday, the rain is insufficient for farming activities, said farmers.
