<p>Bengaluru: The Karnataka government announced on Thursday that there will not be any hike in fees for nursing courses this academic year with Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil rejecting the demand put forth by institutions. </p><p>Patil said no to a fee hike in his meeting with the Association of Nursing Colleges.</p><p>“The government will not allow any fee increase. Most nursing students come from rural and economically-disadvantaged backgrounds. Imposing additional fees is unjust and unacceptable,” Patil said, according to a statement from his office. </p>.In message to leadership, CM Siddaramaiah in Delhi says will serve full term.<p>The existing fee structure -- Rs 10,000 under the government quota, Rs 1 lakh under the management quota and Rs 1.4 lakh for non-Karnataka students -- will continue, Patil said. </p><p>“Any college charging fees more than what's approved will face penalties and legal action. We will not hesitate to revoke their affiliation,” Patil said. </p><p>Karnataka has 611 nursing colleges with around 35,000 seats. Of these, 80 per cent are filled by the management, and 20 per cent fall under the government quota.</p><p>Patil also specified that only the state government would decide on filling unallocated seats, essentially leaving no scope for unauthorized changes.</p>
