No Naxalism in Karnataka, movements should be peaceful and Constitutional: CM Siddaramaiah

Movements should not become violent, take up weapons, or adopt unconstitutional methods by taking law into their own hands, Siddaramaiah said while speaking to mediapersons in Mysuru.

Mysuru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said that there should be no Naxalism in the state. Every citizen has right to protest against injustice and exploitation, but such movements should be peaceful, and done through constitutional methods, the CM said.

Movements should not become violent, take up weapons, or adopt unconstitutional methods by taking law into their own hands, Siddaramaiah added while speaking to mediapersons in Mysuru.

Commenting on Naxalites who have surrendered, Siddaramaiah said that they know where their weapons are, and that police will conduct a probe and recover them in due time.

About a question on another Naxalite, Siddaramaiah said "We do not know if there is another Naxalite in the state. If so, we would request him to surrender," he said.

'Union Govt is anti farmer, inhuman'

About the farmers' protest in Delhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the Modi govt is anti-farmer and inhuman. Farmers are protesting, demanding legal support for MSP (minimum support price) via law. Many farmers have died on the spot of the protest in Delhi-NCR, but the Modi govt is yet to fulfill their demands, he said.

'Committed to protecting Indian Constitution'

Commenting on Union Home Minister Amit Shah's Bheema Sangama campaign, Siddaramaiah said, "Those guilty become more active. With his statement about Ambedkar, they have displayed their opinion about him and what sort of respect they have for him. On the other hand, they are campaigning in favour of Ambedkar. This is ridiculous. It is Congress which got Indian Constitution written by Ambedkar. RSS leaders like Golwalkar and Savarkar opposed it. During Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure as PM, they tried to change Constitution. Many of their ministers stated that they have come to power to change the Indian Constitution."

"We are committed to the Indian Constitution, respecting it, protecting and implementing the Constitution and implementing the objectives of the Constitution," he said.

Asha workers

Regarding Asha workers' meeting, CM Siddaramaiah said that the government had agreed to give them Rs 10,000 per month, including incentives. In case they are not getting incentives, the state government would still provide Rs 10,000. They have agreed to withdraw their strike, he said.

MM Hills cabinet meeting

CM Siddaramaiah also informed that the Cabinet meeting in Male Mahadeshwari Hills will happen on Feb 15 and will bring solutions to some major issues of people of the region.
