Peace award conferred on seer

Jain seer Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swami was conferred the Bhagwan Mahaveer Peace award-2017 at a programme organised at Chavundaraya Saba Mantap in the Mutt, in Shravanabelagola, on Sunday.

Minister for Kannada and Culture Jayamala, presented the award carrying a citation and Rs 10 lakh cash.

Speaking on the occasion, Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swami said, there was a need for greater effort to establish peace in the society.

“With the award, my responsibility has doubled. The cash prize of Rs 10 lakh will be utilised to establish peace,” the Swami said.
