Rain inundates houses in low-lying areas

Incessant rain continued to lash across Kodagu district since Tuesday night.

People refer to the rain by 'Ashlesha' star. Houses in low-lying areas were inundated following heavy rain on Wednesday.

A house belonging to Hemavati in Mangaladevi Nagar was damaged after a hillock caved in on the house. The people in the house had a narrow escape.

A house belonging to Prakash in Jangeri paisari in Makkandur has also collapsed.

Rainwater gushed into the houses in Kaveri layout. Stormwater drains in the city have been overflowing.

A gutter in front of the LIC office has almost washed away. The power supply has been hit as electricity poles have collapsed.

National Highway 275 has caved in as a result of which the road faces the threat of collapse. If the road collapses, people will have to take the Virajpet route to reach Mangaluru.

People residing in hilly regions fear the collapse of hills following incessant rain.

The City Municipal Council has asked the people residing in Chamundeshwari Layout, Putani Nagar and Mangaladevi Nagara to move to the gruel centre.
