<p>Kalaburagi: Various markets in the City are abuzz with business activities with shoppers browsing through the stalls selling essential items during the month of Ramadan (Ramzan).</p><p>Haleem and Harees recipes, which attract people with their aroma along with roasted non-vegetarian dishes, sweets like Double Ka Meetha have been captivating. Muslims are flocking shops to buy clothes, caps, footwears, bangles, perfumes and various other items for the festival, which is considered the holiest month of the year for Muslims.</p><p>With Eid-ul-Fitr approaching, Supermarket, Muslim Chowk, KBN Dargah area and MSK Mill area have turned into ‘Ramadan market’. The month of Ramadan marks strict fasting, charity, chanting of the Creator’s name, and special prayers. Muslims, who are immersed in these rituals, are making preparations for the festival to be celebrated at the end of this month. Muslims from various parts of the district have been visiting Kalaburagi to buy the items needed for the festival.</p><p>The purchase of clothes, footwear, caps, children’s glasses, mehndi, bangles, burqa, and makana starts at 11 am and continues till late at night. The sale of various dishes starts half-an-hour before Iftar time. It continues till early morning Sahur time in some places. While people from rural areas come to buy during the day, most of the residents of Kalaburagi City go for shopping in the market in the evening as it glows in the dark, after completing the special ‘Tarawih’ prayers of the Ramadan month.</p><p>Sweet dishes</p><p>A variety of sweet dishes in the markets are attracting people. These dishes include mango malai, shahdood malai, kesar malai, yemeni malai, apricot malai, mixed fruit salad, kubanika meetha, anjeer Ka meetha, carrot halwa, kaddu kheer and hot jalebi.</p><p>Now, Harees, Haleem, chicken stick, chicken roll, kebab, shawarma, chicken-65, biryani and various types of samosas are enticing food lovers. Sheerkurma is the main dish of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. There is a heavy rush to buy various types of dry fruits, including cashews, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, dates, and ghee which are required for its preparation.</p><p>Decoration</p><p>As part of the Ramadan month, mosques, dargahs, and shops in the City are decorated with various electric lights. Iftar parties are also being organised at various places in the City. Politicians, organisations and businessmen are inviting people to Iftar. </p><p>“Ramadan is a month of self-purification. This month, one should fast not only on food but also for the soul. The eyes should look at only good things, the ears should listen to good words, and the tongue should speak only sweet words. The mind should be pure. Worshipping the Creator like this throughout the month is just training. The purpose behind this is to implement it for the remaining 11 months of the year” said Kalaburagi Jamaat-e-Islami Hind member Mohammad Abdul Khader. </p>
