Record rainfall in Bandipur

The Bandipur National Park and surrounding villages received a record rainfall of 105 mm on Sunday night.

Apart from the Park, catchment areas of the River Cauvery received copious rains on Sunday. The rains continued into Monday.

Chamarajnagar taluk in the Cauvery basin received 57.7 mm rain, Kollegal 50.3 mm, Yalandur 25.1 mm and Gundlupet 56.3 mm, according to statistics available with the district disaster management committee.

The villages that recorded highest rainfall in the region on Monday are: Mangalagrama (95mm) in Chamarajnagar taluk; Basappana Doddi (82 mm) and Malemahadeshwara Hills (60.4 mm) in Kollegal taluk; and Gundlupet town (69) mm.

The rain has spurred the agricultural activities in the district.
