Resolve water tariff hike for industry: CM

Last Updated 01 December 2018, 12:29 IST

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday held a meeting with the officials of Industries and the Water Resources departments with regard to the standoff between the two over the increased water tariff imposed on the state industries.

Recently, the government increased the tariff of water drawn from canals, dams, lakes by the industries, by 100 times. The tariff, which was last revised in 2002, was increased from Rs 3,200 to Rs 3 lakh for every million cubic feet (MCFT).

Taking exception, the industries sought the department’s intervention. As a result, the May 28 order has been kept on hold.

George, who was present in the meeting said that no decision was taken over the issue. “The chief minister has asked both the Industries and Water Resources departments to resolve the issue. The tariff is too much. It should be made a little more reasonable,” he added.
