Last Updated 02 August 2018, 18:40 IST

Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath said that a proposal to develop the road from Jeppu Market to Mphasis via Gujjarakere, at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore, has been submitted to the PWD Minister.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said that the concrete road will provide connectivity to Gujjarakere. The existing road is not in good condition.

“About 75% of the work on plugging sewage to Gujjarakere has been checked. The officials have been directed to complete the work at the earliest. Further, the officials from Minor Irrigation, PWD and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) have been asked to submit an estimate for the pending works on the lake development project. Once an estimate is prepared, funds can be mobilised to develop the lake,” he said.

Further, he said that a sum of Rs 1 crore was sanctioned towards the Minor Irrigation department to take up the work on Gujjarakere. However, the works remain pending. Officials have been directed to get a report from the Agriculture Research Station in Brahmavar and a research institute from Thiruvananthapuram, on the release of an insect, to check the growth of weeds in the lake.

Ward committees

Speaking on his demand to constitute ward committees in the MCC jurisdiction, he said that all efforts will be made to persuade the issue. The MCC Commissioner has the responsibilty to look into the issue. With constituting ward committees, we can bring in transparency in the administration. The councillors need not fear that their importance would be curtailed by forming committees. The public will be involved in developmental works, he said.
