The 90-year-old Belman Mary Little Flower Higher Primary School, Karkala taluk, has been closed down due to lack of students and teachers.
Though there were 22 students during the academic year, the lack of teachers in the school forced authorities to merge the school with a neighbouring school.
Since 2012, the school only had Matilda Menezes as its lone teacher.
As there is no recruitment of teachers by the government for unaided schools after a teacher retires, the authorities were compelled to shut down the school.
Parents feel that the lack of interest shown by the government to recruit teachers in aided schools led to the closure of the school.
