Sexual assault: 10-year jail for youth

The First Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a youth, who had sexually assaulted a minor girl, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The court also ordered Dileep to pay a fine of Rs 54,000.

Dileep’s friends, including Harsha, Avinash and Ashok, had kidnapped the minor girl.

Later, they had forced her to marry Dileep. The accused youths later took the minor girl to Bengaluru and sexually assaulted her at a lodge.

Based on a complaint, Sakharayapatna police registered a case under POCSO Act. The court also awarded one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 on Harsha, Avinash and Ashok for kidnapping the minor girl.

The court also sentenced Manjunath to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment under POCSO Act.

Manjunath had befriended a minor girl at a village fair organised in Antharaghatte. Later, promising to drop her home, he had given juice laced with sedatives.

He had taken her to an isolated place near Sakharayapatna and had raped her.

He also had barged into her house and had sexually assaulted her.

The court also directed Manjunath to pay a fine of Rs 79,000.
